KYLE Post's passion for photography has made him make this pastime become a professional hobby, travelling places just to take photos.

He first was bitten by the bug when he took up a photography class as a requirement unit when he was trying to complete his architecture degree at Lawrence Technological University back in his homeland in the US.

"Photography has always been my passion and I came to know about it when I was studying architecture and the more I do it, the more I become engrossed with it."

Kyle hails from Michigan and works for Student Life, a Christian organisation at the University of the South Pacific.

"Photography allows me to capture the beauty of what God created," he says.

His passion finally turned into a serious hobby after he published a book of 400 photos he took while touring Europe some years back.

He backpacked across Spain, France, Italy, Germany, England and Switzerland.

By going as far as publishing a book has only made Kyle take up this creative art.

Today, he continues to teach himself tricks of the trade by reading up on photography and actually learning to do textbooks.

He has already made a blog where he posted all the photos he had taken in Fiji ever since he arrived some three months ago. Even to the extent, that Kyle now rarely misses getting up at dawn just to try and capture a sunrise and can be seen snapping away at various places in and around the Suva area.

"This is my first time in Fiji and I really love the place and the people.

"I love the diversity. There are a lot of different things here and it just gives me more material to work with," Kyle says.

Working with his Nikon D90 camera, Kyle has snapped photos at the Colo-i-Suva forest park, the Suva market, streets in the capital, the Wailoku waterfalls and Sigatoka. Apart from landscape, Kyle says he is now doing more portraits as he finds himself getting to meet more and more people as he takes his photos.

"And photography in a lot of ways, allows me to take pictures of God's creations.

"I get to know people and find this as an opportunity for me to share the gospel with them and since they're also God's creation, I am expressing it through my photography. I guess you can say that photography is a ministry.

"My passion too is to share the gospel with people all over the world," he said.

And his love for photography has now made Kyle sit up and think whether to pursue his qualifications as an architect or become a full-time photographer.

"Right now I am sort of floating. I am still trying to discover what suits me and at this discovery stage of life, it seems like I am floating.

"I'll just wait and see where the Lord will take me," Kyle says.

The one thing he has made up his mind about and perhaps, the only thing he is sure of so far, is to marry his girlfriend.

Kyle will return to the US in November.
