THE Ministry of Women and the Northern Development Program have started training programs for women who run small businesses to help them understand their finances.

The program will be held in the three provinces of Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata.

Ministry official Timaima Pita said at a workshop in Labasa last Friday that the program would help women become better financial controllers.

"The training is to help our women, those in small business, control and understand their financial affairs," Mrs Pita said.

"Some of them have told me that for the past 10 years of running their market business, they have not been able to save.

"And this workshop has helped them understand why they were not able to save, so we are trying to help them by gaining knowledge from financial expertise."

Twenty-six women, who run handicraft businesses or sell food at Labasa market, graduated with certificates last week.
