A MAJOR clean-up campaign will start this week in the Western Division.
And Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki is asking business organisations, youth groups and volunteers to step forward and assist.
Cdr Cawaki said, after a meeting with Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama, it was agreed that the military would draw up a clean-up plan.
He said the campaign would involve soldiers, police, prison inmates and members of the public.
"This is part of our attempt to fast-track the restoration of lives for flood-affected residents in the west," he said.
"We are calling on volunteers and organisations to join our men in the clean-up campaign. The campaign is to also prevent the possibility of a communicable disease outbreak as six lives have already been lost since the last flood."
Cdr Cawaki also called on village headmen and district representatives in Ra, Ba and Nadroga-Navosa provinces to assist with the clean-up.
