LAUTOKA showed a different style of rugby when they thrashed Macuata at home 40-6 yesterday.

The speed and experience displayed by the sugar city boys at Subrail Park, was just too much for the boys from Caumatalevu in their second Digicel Cup match of the season.

The first half started with the two teams exchanging penalties and were level 6-6. But Lautoka closed the first half with an unconverted try to Kelemedi Bola taking them to a 18 -6 lead.

In the second half Lautoka lifted their performance to another level as they scored six unanswered tries to give them a bonus point win.

One of the best tries scored in the second half was scored by Timoci Vuadreu, who ran from his 10 metre line, kicked the ball two metres ahead before diving over to score in a pool of water.

Vuadreu celebrated his try with a John Zena mirror style รน attracting cheers and laughter from the crowd.

Alipate Ciba also scored for Lautoka running in from the 22-metre line to score.

Lautoka coach Sireli Bulicokocoko said his boys treated Macuata like any other team in the Digicel Cup.

"We improved this week compared to last week's unsuccessful game. The boys picked up in areas that cost us the game last week.

"Today we concentrated on the game and used the ball a lot so that was a good change," Bulicokocoko said.

He said the team would start preparing for the next game against Suva.

Macuata coach Baba said the game was a good one but they would need to work on their defence.

"It was a good game and the boys performance was also good. Lautoka's defense was better than the last game against Ovalau.

"Fitness level has improved and that showed in this game against Lautoka."

Macuata travels to the gold town in two weeks time to take on Vatukoula at Theodore Park.
