TEARS flowed as Sergeant Isireli Moce was laid to rest on Mali Island yesterday.
Led by Police Commissioner Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua, more than 100 people journeyed across the Malau waters to Mali to hand over a son described as a loyal officer of the force.
The blessings of light showers over the Labasa police barracks and the sight of the Fiji flag wrapped around the casket was greeted by his wailing wife Vitinia.
Without a word, Mrs Moce could only hold tightly to the coffin of her husband, the man with whom she had shared 23 years of her life.
Police North media officer Luke Rawalai said Sergeant Moce would be dearly missed by police officers not only in Labasa but Vanua Levu as well.
"He served in different stations of the Northern Division and Sergeant Isireli was known for his outstanding contribution to the force," Mr Rawalai said.
"He was known for his kindness. He had time for everyone."
Sergeant Moce died at Labasa Hospital last week after being admitted for two months with spinal injuries resulting from a road accident.
Earlier this year, while on patrol, Sgt Moce and another officer were involved in a car accident at Vulovi, outside Labasa Town.
