Gifts from The World

Felix Chaudhary
Sunday, April 22, 2012

THE World, the planet's largest privately-owned ship, docked at Lautoka Wharf yesterday bearing gifts for flood-affected people in the Western Division.

Bradley Bower, operations manager for Transam Fiji Limited, said the luxury ship with 170 passengers on board was on a three-port call and the decision to help was made after passengers heard about the plight of flood-stricken people in the division.

"They sent an email around to the residents on board and people donated what they could," Mr Bower said.

"Members from the DISMAC office in Lautoka were on hand to receive beddings, furniture, clothing and electrical items when the ship docked today (yesterday)."
