EXPORTERS in Vanua Levu spent an extra $2300 compared to those in Viti Levu to export products, says Commissioner Northern Lieutenant Colonel Ilai Moceica.
He said the fee was spent on containers sent from the north to Viti Levu.
"Then they have to pay other export costs from Viti Levu to its final destination overseas. So our exporters pay more than those in Viti Levu," Lt-Col Moceica said.
"That is why we need to build our own international port of entry in the north to help our exporters save the extra costs they use to export their products."
