POLICE are investigating allegations of a woman who was allegedly raped, drugged, had her hands and legs tied before being thrown into a river in Labasa.
Police media officer north Luke Rawalai confirmed the investigation saying one man had been arrested and remained in police custody at the Labasa Police Station.
He said the 23-year-old survived the ordeal and was recovering at her home.
He said the woman was believed to have been given pills to make her sleep.
"We can confirm that we are investigating the allegation which happened on Sunday night," Mr Rawalai said.
"We understand the girl was allegedly raped, drugged and thrown into the river at Nagigi outside Labasa Town," he said.
"Police understand that the two (victim and suspect) knew each other," he added.
Mr Rawalai said the girl managed to free her hands and feet and swam towards the river bank before walking to the nearest home.
Police are also investigating whether the vehicle of a shipping company was used to transport the girl to the river at Nagigi on the night of the incident.
