A FAMILY is mourning the death of a 49-year-old iTaukei male who was struck down by a vehicle while walking allong the Kings Road in Tuvu near Lautoka yesterday afternoon.

The death has sparked another stern warning from police to pedestrians and drivers alike.

"We don't want to jump to conclusions because details of what actually happened are still sketchy at this stage but we are urging motorists and pedestrians to please be careful. Motorists need to be aware when pedestrians are about and drive with care while, by the same token, pedestrians should always beware of oncoming traffic and keep to the side of the road as much as possible," said police spokeswoman Ana Naisoro.

"Investigations are continuing and all I can confirm is that a man has died after he was hit by a 4WD vehicle and dragged a considerable distance."

Ms Naisoro also confirmed that the driver was in police custody.

The man's death brings the national road toll to 12 this year.
