LANDOWNERS of pine plantations in Macuata will also benefit from the newly-opened Tropik Wood Products Limited in Bua, says Tropik Wood Limited chief executive Faiz Khan.

"The people of Macuata must understand that we will try to equitably distribute pine harvesting between the two provinces after six months or so of teething issues," Mr Khan said.

"Our aim and plan is to provide benefits across the board to all our landowners rather than discriminate through location," he said.

"That is a directive given to us by the Prime Minister (Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama) and the government.

"However, it is important to keep in mind that our harvesting movements depend significantly on roads infrastructure," he added.

Mr Khan asked for patience and unity from landowners.

He said the project's importance to the people of Bua, Macuata and the Vanua Levu economy would be "gigantic".

Mr Khan has also assured of increased lease rental payments to Fiji Pine lease landowners.

He had said in an earlier interview that under the company's long-term business plan, landowners would be paid "true dividends" every year on a consistent basis.

"I used the words 'true dividends' because over the past 25 years, Fiji Pine has only declared dividend once, that too through borrowed money," Mr Khan said.

Tropik Wood Products Ltd, commonly known as Wairiki port, is expected to rake in $30million to $35million per year in revenue from the export of pine chips dependent on global market demand.
