THE little town of Lami now has its own bar.
For many years, Lami residents had to travel all the way to Suva and back if they wanted to socialise.
With the opening of the Cockles Bay Bar in Lami Harbourpoint, they don't have to travel far.
Owner and operator Clare Williams, also a resident of Lami said she wanted to cater for the alcohol consumers of the town.
"This is my third business but the first bar and it's for the people of Lami," Williams said.
"Lami did not have a bar of its own and people had to travel all the way to Suva when they want to drink.
"But now they have a closer option and it's convenient for them," she said.
The bar officially opened its doors to customers last night and Williams has requested regular drinkers to make use of the bar.
"The drinks are reasonably priced and you can smoke inside if you want, there is no dress-code or footwear code and there is even a television that will screen live games when they are on."
One of the first customers of the bar, Orisi Kaitabu said it was nice for Lami to have its own bar.
"The venue is good, the drinks are cheap and we do not have to travel a long way plus the atmosphere is relaxing," Mr Kaitabu said.
