MORE women will be recognised later this year for their contribution to rugby league in Fiji.

Just last Saturday three women were awarded at the 2012 Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) Awards Night for their contribution over last year.

Fulori Kini of the Referee's Association won Female Official of the Year, Sotiana Tukana was awarded Volunteer of the Year for her contribution to the Islands Electric Lautoka Crushers club and Akanisi Adimailekeba was the Administrator of the Year for guiding the Nadi based Sigatoka Electric Sabeto Roosters.

FNRL Operations manager Rusiate Ratakele said the awards were to commend the women for their efforts.

"The females have been making a huge difference in rugby league over the years," Ratakele said.

"Even though this is a male dominated sport, we are thankful to the women for their contribution," he said.

"The awards are a testament of their passion and commitment that we have identified in them."

Other women in the past who have won FNRL awards include Lenora Qereqeretabua and Mere Talemaitoga.

He said the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League Awards night will be another night to applaud those who have contributed towards the development of secondary schools rugby league.

"There are many female teachers who take up the roles of managers, secretaries or treasurers of secondary school teams."

"And the FSSRL Awards night will recognise their contribution to the sport as well," Ratakele said.

The actual date, venue and categories of the FSSRL Awards night will be revealed later this year.
