FIJI has only one established supplier of fish farming equipments.

This was revealed during a bilateral meeting between the Department of Fisheries, the Embassy of Indonesia and an Indonesian fish farming equipment supplier yesterday.

Fisheries officer aquaculture Mere Lakeba said as a result of the shortage of suppliers, farmers relied solely on government.

She said the equipment supplied by government were given on loan to farmers.

The equipment, Ms Lakeba said ranged from basic water quality equipment, nets, right down to lab equipment.

She said Fiji needed assistance in this area.

Pt Gani Arta Dwitunggal assistant manger Andi Jayaoprawire Sunadim said his team was in Fiji on six-day trip to visit fish farms, research centres and hold talks with stakeholders.

On Monday, the team visited Naduruloulou Research Station in Naitasiri.

Mr Sunadim said they were here to help provide equipment to Fiji.
