A MAN charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption for receiving a $30 bribe sought forgiveness from the court yesterday.

Peni Kalokalo, 38, appeared before magistrate Alofa Seruvatu in the Suva Magistrates Court charged with bribery.

In mitigation, he said he was married with four children and was the breadwinner.

Kalokalo also said he recently lost his 14-year job with the Public Works Department and had to resort to odd jobs.

FICAC prosecutor Shalini Sanmogan said Kalokalo was a tallyman with the PWD engineering section based at Laqere.

Kalokalo was paid $30 to deliver a truck load of soil to a home in Nakasi.

This soil, Ms Sanmogan said, was intended for the Government road construction in Nakasi also. Kalokalo admitted receiving the money in a caution interview by police. The matter was adjourned to November 15 for sentencing.
