JOHN Wesley College players were told to remove the RKS nametag from their opposition in today's crucial Deans trophy Under 19 quarter-final clash at the tfl National Stadium.
The Raiwaqa-based school will play Ratu Kadavulevu School in their first Fiji Secondary School quarter-final appearance in the history of the Deans trophy.
School assistant principal Marika Sovaki said the players were told to treat the match as any other rugby match. RKS finished as the top team from the eastern zone. Lelean Memorial School finished second while Sila Central High School qualified as the third team.
Sovaki said being rated as the third team from the southern zone would not deter their hopes of causing an upset. Nasinu Secondary and Suva Grammar Scholl finished first and second respectively from the southern zone.
"We have been telling the players to remove the RKS tag from RKS and to treat this match as a normal rugby game."
"RKS will be a tough opponent but the boys are mentally prepared to face whatever may come. They are physically and spiritually well prepared for this game," he said.
"RKS have played at this level for quite some time. Nothing is impossible at this stage so we are looking forward to give them a good run."
Sovaki said discipline would be the winning factor for his side. He said the strong and physicality of the Delainakaikai boys would be the motivating factor to drive their players to the next level.
"The boys have trained well for this match. I believe discipline is the only key factor to win this game. The players are being reminded to execute the game plan, maintain possession and give their best on the field," he said.
The RKS-JWC game kicks off at 1.40pm this afternoon.
