City to discuss water cuts

Felix Chaudhary
Saturday, July 31, 2010

THE Lautoka District Advisory Council will meet on Monday to discuss issues facing the Sugar City community.

Foremost on the agenda will be discussions on water shortages and problems with sugar mills in the division. "The west faces the very real possibility of being declared a drought zone because of the lack of rain and receding dam and reservoir levels and then there is also the big issue of problems at the Rarawai and Lautoka sugar mills," said chairman Faiaaz Ali

"We know that there are frequent stoppages and under-par performance at both mills. Questions need to be asked and the truth needs to be told."

Mr Ali says also included in the agenda is discussions on poor bus services to some parts of Lautoka, an issue that affects school children and city workers.
