Drug charge for boxing champion

PROFESSIONAL boxer Zulfikar Joy Ali is in police custody after appearing in court on drug charges.

Ali was hauled into the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday afternoon, charged with one count of cultivating an illicit drug.

Magistrate Nazeem Sahu Khan remanded Mr Ali in police custody.

He is to appear before the Lautoka High Court on Monday August 2.

Mr Ali was questioned and taken into police custody last Tuesday after 139 plants, believed to be marijuana, were allegedly found at his residence.

Mr Ali was represented by lawyer Mere Vanua. Police Inspector Nawal Singh appeared for the prosecution.
