THE sun, sandy beaches and the sporting rivalry is what has lured the Newport Rugby Under-14 team to return to Fiji again this year.
This year the Newport U14 team has made its 11th trip abroad. The contingent of 106 have escaped the cold conditions in Australia to soak up the sun in Nadi.
Tour manager Wade Jolly said the trip was not only about enjoying the weather and playing rugby but also learning the different culture.
He said they had a fantastic arrival and were overwhelmed with the hospitality at Sonasali Island Resort.
Jolly said they would be visiting Korovuto village and also be playing matches against Kaji teams in Nadi.
"We started this 10 years ago," Jolly said.
"A total of 56 players and 50 fathers have made this trip. They are really enjoying every moment. This trip will also serve as a cultural experience for the young players."
The side donated $500 to Namaka Public School yesterday. The side will hand out $250 each to Mount Saint Marys School and Nadi District School.
Jolly said the players had also brought over second hand jerseys and boots to give to the locals.
The side will face Nadi Kaji at Prince Charles Park at 2.30pm tomorrow.
The contingent departs on Sunday.
