Saturday, March 13, 2010

Update: 8:28AM THE Health Ministry has activated its emergency team ahead of Cyclone Tomas' expcted arrival.

An emergency team was set up at ministry headquarters in Suva last night to monitors the situation across the country.

The team will decide which hospitals and health centres must stay open and decide when to evacuate patients threatened by the cyclone.

A Health Ministry official said the team was in constant contact with National DISMAC and divisional medical teams.

Meanwhile, the Northern Division DISMAC team worked through the night monitoring Tomas which has made little progress.

The cyclone remained about 600km north-northeast of Suva moving at about eight knots.
