Update: 12:51PM THE Northern Division's disaster management team will be activated at 5pm today in Labasa.
DISMAC North reports that a skeleton team will be activated to monitor a tropical depression which currently lies 600km north-northeast of Fiji.
The DISMAC team will comprise members of the Commissioner Northern's Office, emergency services and the other government departments.
Medical centres in the division have been advised to prepare for the approaching depression.
Weather reports predict that the depression will pick up speed over the next 48 hours and increase in intensity.
Strong winds and rain could begin to affect the Fiji Group late tonight or early tomorrow.
A second depression about 700km west of Nadi is not expected to affect the group.
