SHE was fragile, fast asleep in the arms of the head nurse after being saved from the cold porch she was abandoned on in the early hours of Tuesday.
Nurses named her Baby Grace.
Grace is two to three days old and was found at Papaya Street in Nasinu at 4.30am by 61-year-old Fulori Tikoicina.
She woke up to say her morning prayers when she heard the baby crying outside.
Nausori Health Centre head nurse Sister Unaisi Sikivou said Baby Grace could not have been more than two to three days old.
She is the fourth abandoned baby in two months who is housed at a public health facility, according to the Ministry of Health.
Mrs Tikoicina said Baby Grace was wrapped in a white cloth when she found her on a chair outside her home.
Late yesterday, police arrested a woman they believed to be the baby's mother.
Assistant police spokesman Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said they were investigating.
Sister Sikivou said the nurses organised shiftwork on a 24-hour basis to look after Baby Grace.
Ministry spokesman Iliesa Tora said in such cases they notified the police to track down their parents.
"If we can't get them, we get the Social Welfare Department involved," he said.
In the past two months, babies were abandoned in Lautoka, Suva, Nausori and Labasa.
