Snooker players to lift bar

Wednesday, December 30, 2009

IN a bid to lift the standard of snooker in the Sugar City, the Lautoka Club will increase the number of tournaments next year .

"Next year we should stage at least two tournaments every month," said club sports chairman Anil Kumar.

"That's apart from the national and north west events on the calendar. We want to boost the sport of snooker. Also we would be holding separate billiards tournaments. Recently the number of billiards tournaments have decreased."

He said having a membership drive was also necessary because they needed to increase their membership. The Club has a total of 42 playing members.

Kumar said the focus would be on youth development.

"Many people associate billiards with pool.

"However these are two different cue games. Billiards is only played with three balls. Pool is played with the high and low balls."

Nitesh Chand, Fiji's number three snooker player, is a member of the Club.
