UPTOWN Boxing Stable's Gyan Singh is Ghanaian Joseph Kwadjo's trainer in Fiji.
Kwadjo's manager Mustapha Khattab said some of Fiji's best boxers train at Uptown Stable in Toorak and were ideal training partners for Kwadjo.
Khattab said Kwadjo was to have trained with his friend and Australian fighter Paul Smallman, who was in the country last week.
"Smallman had to go back to Sydney so I put Kwadjo in Suva to train with Gyan. He's in Suva to shape-up and be ready for the fight. He's renting nearby and Gyan is monitoring his progress."
Khattab said Kwadjo was a promising boxer, whose previous manager was a Samoan.
"I've known him for almost a year. I met him when he came to Fiji to fight Paula Tuilau in the Naidiri Promotion.
"Prior to that, I heard about him from a friend in New Zealand.
"I took him in when Abdul Feroz kicked him out. He called me and was crying.
"I drove up to Lomawai to get him," he said.
"I asked if he signed a contact with Feroz and he said no.
He said Feroz told him to say it.
"I'm an Egyptian and Kwadjo is an African boy so I took him in."
Feroz yesterday said Khattab was trying to blow the issue out of proportion.
"If I spent money to get Kwadjo from Samoa then why would I kick him out," he said.
"No businessman wants to lose money. I was about to sign a contract with Kwadjo but some people conspired against me and my licence was cancelled without my knowledge. I wasn't given a chance to defend myself.
"That's when they took Kwadjo away from me. I'm disappointed because Khattab and Kwadjo are trying to ruin my reputation as Fiji's best promoter," Feroz said.
