FIJI Fashion Week held its grand opening Friday night at Albert Park, showcasing creations and designs of established and emerging artists in the Asia Pacific region.
Fashion Week organiser Ellen Whippy said about five established designers took part in the Established Designers category.
"There are about 10 designers taking part in the Asia Pacific Emerging Designers category," she said.
"There was also a special guest appearance by Miss South Pacific Merewalesi Nailatikau."
A designer purple dress charity luncheon was organised at the Holiday Inn, Suva on Thursday as part of fashion week's contribution toward charity for the year.
Ms Whippy said the charity event would raise about $1000 which would go to the Kidney Foundation of Fiji.
Kidney Foundation of Fiji president Dewan Maharaj said the Foundation was grateful to the organisers of Fiji Fashion Week.
"Every dollar that comes in is a big help to the patients undergoing dialysis treatment," he said.
"We appreciate the efforts of the organisers of the event to host a charity event for the Foundation.
"We have about 31 patients at the dialysis centre and we are trying to keep the costs as low as we can."
Yesterday's programme showcased the work of emerging local designers. The sale of designer clothes will begin today after the children's fashion show.
