SIXTEEN security guards on Thursday became certified senior first aid trainers.
This after St John Ambulance conducted a three-day training at City Security Services at Brown Street in Suva.
St John training co-ordinator and medical first aid instructor Rahmat Khan said the officers were taught first aid application for certain medical conditions and injuries.
The guards completed a two-day basic first aid training last week.
"It comes at a good time especially with the festive season just around the corner" he said of the training. "With their training they can now play a vital role in first aid application."
Group general manager Shiu Narayan earlier said the training would benefit the guards and those who hired them.
"If there is an emergency or if an accident happens, the security guards are able to apply first aid depending on the type of injury," he said.
"We also conduct our own training on the site before any security guard is sent out. This is an annual training program for our staff."
