Tietjens picks three Fijians

Friday, November 27, 2009

NEW ZEALAND Sevens coach Gordon Tietjens has named three Fijians in his squad for the opening leg of the 2009/2010 IRB World Sevens Series.

Seasoned Manawatu duo Tomasi Cama Junior and Lote Raikabula are joined by Waikato's Save Tokula.

Tietjens said the squad had a good mix of experienced players with a couple of new, young players coming through. The 12-man squad includes two debutants in Bay of Plenty's Toby Arnold and Wellington's Buxton Popoalii.

Counties Manukau hooker DJ Forbes will captain the team.

"Last season had its challenges with the injuries we suffered but these first two tournaments are a good opportunity for us to start fresh and also begin building towards next year's Commonwealth Games," said Tietjens.

The Dubai Sevens will be played on December 4-5 and round two takes place in George, South Africa on December 11-12.
