DESPITE the low number of child abuse cases in Fiji, Save the Children Fiji believes many more cases go unreported.
Save the Children CEO Chandra Shekhar said child abuse was their core area of concentration.
He made the comment in relation to the Blue Ribbon Day, which is celebrated today.
Mr Shekhar said the organisation was working with other groups to raise awareness at community level.
He said awareness started at early childhood education level.
"There is a need to protect our children," Mr Shekhar said.
"Encouraging people to wear the blue ribbon is to remember children who have suffered and raise awareness about the abuse.
He said people must report any abuse to the authorities.
"There are some cases of corporal punishment or beating within families by people children trust," Mr Shekhar said.
"But the cases are low compared to other countries.
"So the question that remains is are the children suffering in silence, that's why we want to create awareness in the community."
