More girls stay safe

Monday, November 16, 2009

MORE than half the 18,338 girls who gave their consent, have been immunised against HPV (Human Papillomavirus) infection in June.

This was revealed by Dr Salanieta Saketa last week at the 5th Regional J-PIPS (Japanese support to the Pacific Immunisation Program Strengthening) training program at the Pharmaceutical Services Centre last week.

Dr Saketa said she hoped for a larger coverage number after the completion of vaccination data this year.

There has been a decline in the prevalence of measles, whooping cough and tuberculosis.

"The fact is, we cannot afford to be complacent about what we achieved. This challenge underlines the importance of working together as a region to ensure immunisation coverage is sustained over 95 per cent against measles and other serious infections," she said.
