Fiji Blues trio in Asia-Pacific team

Saturday, November 14, 2009

Three members of the Fiji Blues have been selected in the East Asia Pacific representative team to compete at the Australian Country Cricket Championships in Australia next January.

Jo Baba, Joe Rika and Sakaraia Lomani have been selected in the team and will join the best players from the region in playing against the best of Australia's country cricketers.

"We are pleased to have three players elected in the squad," said Cricket Fiji general manager Martin Shaw.

"This is a great opportunity for the players to get some tough match competition in the lead up to our World Cricket League competition in February."

Baba and Rika have earned their place after performing well at the recent EAP camp held at Cricket Australia's Centre of Excellence in Brisbane, while Lomani has been added to the squad after impressive performances at the recent EAP Cricket Trophy.

For Rika, this will be the first time he has been selected in the squad to compete at the ACCC after going close the previous two years.

Lomani and Baba both made their EAP debuts last year and will now return for a second chance to play at this level.

Both Rika and Baba play club cricket in Australia and have benefited from the chance to play and train regularly at that level.

With the chance to play regular cricket in the lead up to the ACCC competition there's no doubt that the players will be in good form entering the competition.

The team will be captained by Vanuatu's Andrew Mansale.

The Australian Country Cricket Championships will be played in Albury, NSW from January 3rd to 14th.

Team:

Andrew Mansale (Vanuatu), Christopher Amini (PNG), Josaia Baba (Fiji), Jo Rika (Fiji), Masaomi Kobayashi (Japan), Trevor Langa (Vanuatu), Joel Tom (PNG), Sakaria Lomani (Fiji), Loa Nou (PNG), Willie Gavera (PNG), Vani Vagi Morea (PNG), Patrick Matautava (Vanuatu), Kila Pala (PNG), Assad Vala (PNG).
