BRITISH Army officer Apolosi Satala was to have joined the Flying Fijians camp last night as a late replacement for inspirational backrower Netani Talei.
It was a double injury blow for 26-year-old Talei, who is out for up to five weeks after injuring his knee ligaments and shoulder during Worcester Warriors' LV Cup win over Newcastle Falcons on Sunday.
Flying Fijians technical director Mike Brewer said Clermont utility Seremaia Bai would captain the Flying Fijians and start Sunday's Test against Scotland in Edinburgh at inside centre with Nadi's Vereniki Goneva on his outside.
Former All Blacks captain Brewer, who was Scotland's forwards coach last year, said stable scrums and line-outs were the key to a memorable victory at Murrayfield.
"If we produce a stable platform from scrums and line-outs then we will be able to attack Scotland," Brewer said.
"We will need to be very accurate and disciplined to win the match."
Brewer said focus in the next few days would be on acquiring knowledge.
"Knowledge is the key to success," he said.
"To beat Scotland, we must have knowledge of what we want to do, knowledge of the opposition's strengths and then go out and play with intensity and accuracy both in attack and in defence.
"We've only had four field sessions together so that is not long, but we've done with 90 per cent of what we wanted to cover and will be ready once our final team run at Murrayfield on Friday afternoon is over."
The Kiwi played down injury concerns in the Flying Fijians, saying every position was covered.
"Bai will cover for Nicky Little at flyhalf and Josh Matavesi also plays flyhalf," he said.
Talei's exclusion brings to five the number of changes in the Flying Fijians initial 30-memer squad.
Saracens star Kameli Ratuvou pulled out for personal reasons and was replaced by Josh Matavesi. Gabie Lovobalavu replaced Wise Luveniyali while France-based duo Norman Ligairi and Vilimone Delasau can't travel to Scotland because of visa problems.
The Flying Fijians are down to 27 players after management decided not to fly in a replacement for Jone Qovu.
Fiji plays Scotland at 2.30am.
