THE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Civil Aviation is reviewing the request from the United Arab Emirates regarding the multiple airline designation issue where its wants an open sky.
Civil Aviation director Akuila Waradi said that granting the UAE the multiple airline designation would mean that the national airlines for the seven emirates - Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al-Quwain, Ras al-Khaimah and Fujairah - could fly to Fiji "using any number of aircraft any time of the week".
Mr Waradi said given that UAE was made up of seven emirates that had their own national airlines, there would be scores of airlines coming to Fiji. This would have an impact on airline traffic, he sadi.
Mr Waradi said that while that would be good for Fiji, they were taking into account the viability of national airline Air Pacific.
