United wins Lautoka league

Thursday, November 05, 2009

GENERAL Machinery United took out the Lautoka Football Association local league competition beating Shop n Save Blues 4-2 in a penalty shootout at Churchill Park on Tuesday evening

GM United team had the services of Salesh Samy, Jone Vonu and Kamal Hassan.

Shop n Save Blues fielded an under-strength team with their star players rested for the Lautoka team's O League campaign.

Blues team director Shiu Narayan said they opted to field a second string team to prevent the senior players from picking up injuries ahead of their O League fixture against Hekari United.

Narayan said the young players faired well against an experienced GM United line up.

"We will turn our focus to the National Club Championship playoffs," Narayan said.

"The result of the final has not affected the morale of the players.

"They played gallantly. We will now await for the result of the district reps from Papua New Guinea before we resume training next week."

The Blues lost to GM United in the semi-finals of the National Club Championship last year.

Last week, the Blues beat GM United 2-0 in the local league semi-final.

In the division one final Tigers Megs defeated Lautoka Teachers College 3-0.
