Family-oriented beauty here for the pageant

Thursday, November 05, 2009

CARTHY Lavini loves a good laugh with family and friends and says her concept of family has been the starting point of the wealth of knowledge and values she has acquired through her Niuean heritage.

The 23-year old law student at Auckland University will represent Niue at the Pacific Building Solutions-sponsored Miss South Pacific pageant 2009 in Suva this month.

She is one of 10 contestants vying for the prestigious title held by 2008 Miss Niue Vanessa Marsh.

The Niue-born beauty was raised to a loving family of eight and has strong family orientation.

"I love Niue cultural art. My involvement in these activities keeps me current with issues, changes and development that confront Niue culture," she said.

"As a member of the Niue youth caucus to the Commonwealth Youth Program, I had the opportunity to contribute directly to youth policy issues at national and regional level.

"I advocate issues that affect youths."

She is a member of the Leviatana Youth of Alofi South and a lead dancer for the senior section.

Ms Lavini graduated from the University of the South Pacific with a Bachelor of Arts degree in banking, financing and real estate in 2007. She also has a Diploma in Land Use Planning and was properties and appraisals officer for the Niue Department of Justice, Lands and Survey.

"I want to be a legal professional."
