Lincole side eyes playoff

Wednesday, November 04, 2009

LINCOLN Soccer Club of Tailevu Naitasiri will look to create another piece of history at the National Club Championship zonal playoffs next week.

The side, with Lokia Sports, qualified to represent Naitasiri in the playoffs.

The Jovilisi Rara-captained side was formed this year and managed to shock all by qualifying for the NCC.

Lincoln club president Pravin Singh said he was proud of his players and confident his club would make the finals.

"It has been the hard work put in by the players and officials, which has seen us get this far," Singh said.

He said fitness was the key for the side because it survived two matches on Sunday and attributed this to two training sessions with former Suva and national rep Raymond Stoddart.

Singh said the team had not qualified just to make up the numbers at the playoffs.

"We have a number of good players and they know how to tackle the big boys," Singh said.

"We will surely be out to make the final and are looking at continuing with history making."

The side will play against Lokia in the Tailevu Naitasiri local league final tomorrow at 7pm at Ratu Cakobau Park.

Fiji Football Association chief executive Bob Kumar said the southern playoffs will be played at Bidesi and Buckhurst Park, with the western playoffs to be held at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka and Subrail Park in Labasa will be the venue for the north playoffs.

This will be on November 14-15 with the final at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori on November 21-22.
