MARIA Liku was Fiji's best performer at the Commonwealth Senior and Junior Championship which ended in Malaysia earlier last weekend.
Competing in the women's 58 kilogram division, Liku managed a second placing in the junior category and a third placing in the senior category.
The 19-year -old had a snatch of 70kg and a clean and jerk of 90kg.
Her total of 160kg was five kilograms lower than her lift at the 2009 Pacific Mini Games where she won three gold medals in her category.
Fiji's other two competitors, Josefa Vueti and Manueli Tulo, failed to better their mark set at the Mini Games in the Cook Islands.
Competing in the 56kg division, Tulo was placed fourth. His snatch was 95 and clean and jerk was 121. The total of 216kg was lower than the 221kg he recorded in Rarotonga.
Vueti competed in the 77kg division and was placed third.
His snatch was 116kg and clean and jerk was 151kg.
Vueti's total of 267kg was 20kg lower than his mark at the Mini Games. Fiji Weightlifting Association secretary Chris Yee said the main purpose was participation in the international event.
He said the lifters could have achieved better results.
"We are satisfied with the outcome," Yee said.
"I believe the lifters can do much better. They have proven that in the past.."
The lifers return to New Caledonia this weekend and start preparations for the Pacific Cup in Noumea in December.
Yee said they were hoping to add another lifter to the elite squad to be based at the Oceania Weightlifting Institute in New Caledonia.
He said this will all depend on the availability of funds.
