FIJI's first professional AFL player David Rodan is confident about the success of the sport in the country.
Rodan, the ambassador of Aussie Rules Pacific, said he was excited and honoured to be part of the AFL Fiji launch.
"I really love playing this sport and I'm very excited and proud to come back and promote the game to my people."
The Port Adelaide Football Club player said the locals had the natural ability required to play footy.
"We have so much talent here. Many here play rugby and possess abilities like height and agility. They are likely to adapt well in football (AFL)," Rodan said. "I'm honoured to be involved as an ambassador and I'm pretty confident that we will see more AFL players from Fiji and other Oceania region countries."
The 26-year-old is from a sporting family. His uncle Joe Rodan was a national athlete.
Rodan left Fiji with his parents at the age of three and had been brought up in Australia.
He is accompanied by his fiancÚe and his parents, who are also involved in the promotion of AFL Fiji.
Other Fijian AFL players include Alipate Carlile, who is plays with Rodan in Port Adelaide Football Club, and Nicholas Naitanui, who plays for the West Coast Eagles.
