Update: 12:39PM THE tsunami warning for Fiji has now been cancelled, according to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in its latest bulletin.
In Tsunami Bulletin Number 003, the Center said the tsunami warning and/or watch issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center is now cancelled for Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Nauru, Papua New Guina, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Fiji, Kiribati, Kosrae, Wallis-Futuna, Howland-Baker, Marshall Islands, Tokelau, Kermadec Islands, Pohnpei, New Zealand, Samoa, American Samoa, Tonga, Australia, Niue, Cook Islands, Chuuk, Indonesia, Wake Islands, Jarvis Islands, Palmyra Island, Guam, Northern Marianas, Johnston Island, Yap, Marcus Island, Belau, Midway Islands, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Philipines.
This after measurements or reports of tsunami wave activity were noted in Vanuatu at 11.20 at 0.05metres or 0.2feet at intervals of 24 minutes. Recordings were also made at Dart Coral at 11.26 of 0.03M/0.1FT at 10minute intervals and Luganville, Vanuatu at 11.27 at 0.10M/0.3FT at 20minute intervals.
The cancellation comes as all parts of the Western Division head back to their workplaces and homes.
Reports have also flooded in of the capital city Suva also having been evacuated after the alert was put out for the western division.
Business came to a standstill in the city as there was mass movement towards higher ground, including traffic coming to a stop at the high points such as the Colonial War Memorial Hospital zone.
