Golf eyes two gold

Saturday, August 15, 2009

NADI Airport fireman Anuresh Chandra has made the Pacific Mini Games cut.

Chandra is part of an experienced four-member team that includes Olaf Allen, Vikrant Chandra and Roneel Prakash.

They are aiming for the two gold medals up for grabs in Cook Islands.

National Golf Association of Fiji secretary Mosese Waqavonovono said, ""We've selected a very good team ... all four players have represented Fiji in major competitions before.

"We certainly want to win gold and had a serious look at how best we can perform in the Mini Games. The team should be able to compete effectively.

"They will be playing on a nine-hole course and our players are very good playing on a short course," he said.

Waqavonovono said the team would be competing for the individual and team gold medals.

"All four will be playing individually for gold and the best three scores of the day will be added on a daily basis for the team gold.

He said the national team would take part in the Nadi Open today.

"From next week, the team will train with Australian coach David Roche at the Natadola golf course on a weekly basis.

Fiji was fourth in the team and individual grades in the 2007 Pacific Games.
