19 countries taken off Telecom's international grid

Wednesday, August 05, 2009

Update: 12:04PM NINETEEN countries, including 10 in the Pacific, cannot be accessed through Fiji's 052 and 021 phone services, according to Telecom Fiji Limited.

And TFL says this has come about because of a FINTEL decision to block international calls to some countries.

"Although customers are able to gain international access through TFL's 052 and 021 service, not all countries are accessible. We are currently working on providing access to the rest of these countries," a TFL statement said.

"As a result of FINTEL's abrupt and unexpected action to block calls to various countries including those in the South Pacific, TFL's customers will not be able to access the following destinations using the 00 service".

It said the countries affected were:

1. Afghanistan mobile

2. Azerbaijan -  mobile

3. Ethiopia - fixed, Ethiopia mobile

4. Jamaica mobile

5. Liberia fixed; Liberia mobile

6. Madagascar fixed; Madagascar mobile

7. Myanmar fixed; Myanmar mobile

8. Netherlands mobile

9. Niue

10. Norfolk fixed; Norfolk mobile

11. North Korea fixed; North Korea mobile

12. Palau fixed; Palau - mobile

13. Cook Islands

14. Samoa

15. PNG

16. Solomon Islands

17. Vanuatu

18. Tuvalu

19. Tonga

FINTEL is expected to respond to Telecom's claims sometime this afternoon.
