Hiding's no suprise, says Fiji coach Khan

Sunday, July 12, 2009

FIJI'S humiliating 8-1 loss to the Solomon Islands in the OFC Futsal Championship final is no surprise for coach Imtiaz Khan.

Khan said Fiji lost to a better team.

He said the Solomons had specialist futsal players.

"We knew it will be hard to beat them with this team. I'm happy we made it to the final," said Khan.

The former star Suva team midfielder, who represented the national team in both codes, said despite the national team's failure to impress in the championship, the future of futsal was promising.

"By playing in the final, we've proved we have potential," he said.

"We now look forward to an improved outing in next year."

He said to field a better prepared national team, the way forward was to start a Futsal National League to be played concurrently with the National League.
