He has been a youth parliamentarian and was once also on the wrong side of the law but believes a troubled soul should not be left alone but helped.
Ratu Viliame Naulivou, better known as Tubuna or Tubs by the street kids and youths of Lautoka has been working towards building and improving their lives.
Brought up in one of the "rougher" neighbourhoods in Lautoka, Topline, the perception associated with it, Tubuna believes is hard to remove.
He has been touching the lives of street kids and youths and giving them hope, saying they are worthy and deserve a better life.
"Most of these street kids come from broken homes and are left on their own. They need someone to care for them, to show them that they are worthy to the community," he said yesterday.
"My approach is simple; I recruit them into our fellowship and youth group where they polish on their skills and talents before going back to earn a living on their own.
"These youths might not be educated or hold degrees but they are as talented as anyone, they are very good with their hands, they can draw, are creative and are talented in sports."
Tubuna heads the Natokowaqa, Topline, PRB Youth Group.
He emphasises their difficulty having to live with negative perceptions saying, "Sometimes when we go for interviews for a job, they reject us after knowing that we are from Topline, that is the reputation this area has gained over the years," he said.
"But we want to change that because youths living here are skilled and if they want to be helped, there should be various avenues to take.
"I once found myself on the wrong side of the law and I tell myself that if I can change my life and work hard to earn a living, then so can my friends."
Tubuna said some of the youths he worked with were very talented and sometimes a challenge for him.
The youth group is currently fundraising to gather money to build a concrete volleyball court.
"Topline youths are also well known for their talents in playing volleyball, we organise games every weekend for the youths to gather and enjoy themselves," he added.
"Not only young people from Topline attend this game but it attracts people from all over Lautoka.
"I would like to thank the Apostle Gospel Outreach Fellowship, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Lautoka City Council and Western Public Rental Board for having the faith in these youths by providing us with support."
