Update: 4:24PM FIJI's Muslim leaders have been won over by US President Barak Obamas special address to Muslims today.
Fiji Muslim League vice
president Abdul Qayyum Khan, who described Mr Obama as a "peacemaker", said he
was convinced that the new US administration was serious about bringing about positive change and overcoming
the mistrust.
"I can say with greater confidence we can trust this man. I see
him as a peacemaker," he said.
"The peace is coming from his heart."
Mr Khan said the Muslim community appreciated the extension of
friendship.
He was speaking at the US Embassy where 34 Muslim leaders were invited to view a
replay of Mr Obama's special address.
"This is the first time ever that a large number of Muslims have been
invited," he said.
"I can say it with
confidence that anybody who extends his hands as a brother, we welcome as a
brother.
"The relationship will
improve and all misconception and mistrust will go and we will live inpeace and harmonyas the true sons ofprophet Abraham
all Jews, Christians and Muslims," he added.
