THE Rotary Club is currently engaged with 18 water projects, some expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Rotary Club of Suva East president Aslam Khan, said the projects included providing water tanks in villages and digging boreholes for villages and schools in Sigatoka, Nadroga, Naitasiri and Labasa in the North.
More than 40 communities have benefitted from the water projects that were completed by the Rotary Club last year.
These projects accounted for more than 16000 people in places such as Malolo Lailai Island, which now has water supply in its two villages Yaro and Solevu and five settlements, Cubi, Kawalevu, Vuya, Nawaikama and Yako. Some other places included Wainibuka, Lautoka, Rakiraki and Tavua.
The completion of water and sanitation projects in the 40 communities cost a total of $675,000.
"They were using sea water and collected water from rivers. With the help of our fellow Rotarians and interested community servers, we were able to gather money and expertise to upgrade the water and sanitation facilities in these rural areas," said Mr Khan.
Meanwhile, the club also has 76 projects from around the country waiting for approval.
