ELDERLY Twomey Hospital patients were caught up in moments of fascination provided by portraits and sculptures at the Fiji Museum in Suva on Friday.
The seven patients were from the hospital's dermatology unit. Four were leprosy patients and three suffer from tuberculosis.
Many were as old as 70 years, the youngest being 16, and it was their first time at the museum.
According to Nemani Ligadua, a hospital attendant accompanying the group, the visit was made possible by the hospital's management who decided it worthwhile for the patients, who have been in the hospital for the past few years, to have a change of environment.
"This is their first visit outdoors," he said.
Paulo Tele, 77, has been in the Twomey Hospital the last 40 years as a leprosy patient was thrilled.
"It is good to see Fiji's history and experience it again. I remember the things I see here in the museum, to the days how they were used by people," he said.
Fiji Museum marketing officer Prakashni Sharma said they prepared tea as a treat for the group.
