To serve the women of Fiji is her top priority and something that keeps her going in life.
Yishu Lal, a counsellor by profession knows she's made her contribution when her clients get justice.
She has been working as a counsellor at Fiji Women's Crisis Centre for the past 19 years.
Ms Lal counsels and provides support to survivors of violence, domestic violence, rape and child sexual assault.
She supports them through police, legal aid, court, medical and emergency accommodation.
Ms Lal joined the centre because she liked the issues it was working on.
"To do my best is my priority and ensure that our clients get the best possible service without suffering anymore.
"To work out ways through huge barriers to empower my clients is challenging and exciting is when my client gets justice and I know I have contributed," she said.
"I love working for women. I have seen the extent of suffering that women and children go through and I try to help in whatever ways I can."
There is no excuse for violence and it should never be perpetuated on women and children, says Ms Lal.
"Violence against women has more than just physical effects. There are emotional and psychological effects as well.
"I've also seen how women here have found the courage to build on with their lives irrespective of the horrendous situations they have gone through," she said.
Her motto in life is to stop violence against women.
Ms Lal is also actively involved in community awareness in Hindustani throughout the country.
She sees helping women and children through FWCC as an achievement for her.
"FWCC has enhanced my understanding and appreciation for women human rights and my will to continue to serve the women of Fiji," she said.
Prior to her engagement with FWCC, Ms Lal worked for women's clubs, religious groups and Parents and Teachers Association. The mother of two was born in Ba but brought up in Suva.
FWCC co-ordinator Shamima Ali is the inspiration for the work she does.
