POOR Relief Society is one of the oldest care and compassion non-government organisations that has been around for decades to better the lives of those in need.
The society provides assistance to families and students and victims of natural disasters.
It supports 14 families and has assisted more than 3000 students financially. It was incepted in 1956 in Suva by Mrs Bhasin, the wife of the then Indian High Commissioner to Fiji, to assist the disadvantaged.
The idea of providing assistance to the disadvantaged was brought up by the society in order to assist women who are elderly destitutes, deserted housewives and single mothers who have limited means of survival.
