HE is a true inspirational community worker. Sevuloni Rokomatu Ratu, at 23, is Fiji Red Cross's (FRC) HIV program national team leader.
Helping people and meeting different people is something he has always enjoyed. It was the reason he joined FRC as a volunteer in 2004.
Many at his age would hesitate to talk about taboo topics such as sex and sexually-transmitted diseases in public, but Sevu, with his knowledge and wisdom, is bold and takes his gospel across all barriers.
His primary responsibilities include developing and implementing the HIV/AIDS prevention and care program for the society, conduct ongoing monitoring and evaluation of programs, provision of technical support, provide on-the-job training and mentoring to branch staff and volunteers involved in HIV and health.
Focusing on a broader public health program, such as working in the area of health and welfare which predominantly looks at non- communicable disease prevention is also Sevu's responsibility.
The lad from Lauwaki Village in Vudak, in the Province of Ba, believes in equality.
"My motto in life is always to make no discrimination to people that we are serving, as to their nationality, race, religious belief or political opinion. This is the time that we need to help one another, whether it is your neighbour or someone who is finding difficulty in life and needs your care," he said.
