Police assign officers to Fiji Times

Friday, April 10, 2009

Update: 6:14PM A POLICE officer and the force's spokesperson Ema Mua entered the Fiji Times Limited newsroom in Suva at 5.50pm, about an hour after the media was informed of the state's decision to closely monitor news broadcasts and publications.

The company's managing director, Anne Fussell, and company lawyer Richard Naidu are in discussion with the force's representatives.

Fiji Times editor-in-chief Netani Rika said management would closely monitor the situation and address the issues as they arise.

In 1987, the military deployed soldiers to all media outlets to monitor their news.
