Youths show civic pride

Monday, January 26, 2009

MAHANAIM Seventh Day Adventist Church youths carried out their monthly community work by cleaning up Edinburgh Drive yesterday.

Youth spokesperson Jioji Ranamila said the clean-up was part of the community work they carry out every month.

He said in their first initiative this year they helped the Suva City Council and would venture into other projects in the coming months.

"We normally visit old peoples' homes and other centres which need help," Mr Ranamila said.

There were more than 50 youths collecting rubbish at different areas in Suva.

Asenace Tabaki said they enjoyed collecting rubbish because it was for the community.

"For the next three months, we have other plans to visit other centres," she said, adding the youths involved in the clean-up were also involved in a flood appeal by FBCL and Vodafone.

"The youths helped in packing the items collected during the appeal," she said.

Ms Tabaki said they were ready to help any organisation that needed help.

Suva Lord Mayor Ratu Peni Volavola praised the youths.

"The SCC provided them with bags and gloves and that is what we normally do when people come forward to help," he said.
