BASICS will lay the foundation for victory as the Vodafone Fiji Bati's gear up to meet France at the Rugby League World Cup tonight.
Games played so far at the World Cup have seen losing teams not doing the basics right and the Bati do not want to join that list.
Trainer Shane Morris has pointed out key areas which will play a major role in the game and believes the Bati have what it takes to outplay the Tricolores.
"Ball control is a must," Morris said.
"Communication from the wingers in and from our middle block out, our first contact in defence and numbers in tackles and slowing the play down and tight ruck defence will all be key."
The match is crucialfor the sides.
Fiji needs a win to stay in contention for the semi-finals, while should France win it will mean the European nation will qualify for the semis. France beat Scotland 38-18 in its first match.
A France win will send Fiji and Scotland packing.
Morris, a former Bati mentor said the team was in high spirits.
"The team is in good shape and we have been very physical in our training in preparation for the game," he said.
"We are now in the process of tapering down and focusing on the little things that each player needs to work on to give is the edge on France."
With the theme Noqu Kalou noqu vanua, there is real optimism in the Bati camp.
"The aim is to play for ourselves, the person beside you and above us, our country, for Fiji," Morris said.
"We want and need to succeed.
"The feeling is great the Fijian men can not wait for the game against France and they will do the people of Fiji proud and they have the power, passion and the desire to be strong warriors of Fiji."
Apart from Morris, coach Jo Rabele is assisted by Paul Macgregor (strength and conditioning) from New South Wales and Australian Centre with the Dragons, Steve Price (ruck defence- Dragons), Michael Baines (physio-Dragons) and Max Ninness
